Grand Shanghai

Just came back from a wedding. Ya i know, i'm always going for weddings and this is the 3rd consecutive one this month. It also marks the last for 2006. This wedding is kinda different. ambience is different, the culture is different. Let's just say that i like the layout of the restaurant but not the behaviour of the relatives. Why must people get drunk and loud in weddings? The groom was forced to drink and got drunk. Eyes were bloodshot that even though i did not know him really well, i aproach him to ask if he is ok. Even when to the extent of going to the nearby petrol kiosk to get sng mui for him. Next time when i have my wedding, it will be sweet and classy. Nobody's gonna ruin my show.

Even the outside reminds me of those china building settings in movies...
Da Shanghai....initially i got the name mixed up and thought it was old shanghai...got mixed up with lao beijing.
the nice ceiling lamps.....
It reminds me of those weddings you see in movies, whereby u can picture the groo with a big red silk ball in front of his waist. Nah he din wear that in the wedding..The stage hosts a live band, with a singer in cheongsam that croons chinese, hokkien, english songs. I thought the chinese and english songs were rather nice. THe hokkien songs were a little bit tasteless though
the nice doorgift. something different frm the usual chocolate
the menu....
the stage.....looks very classy....retro man!

the bride and groom!!
dishes are served individually, something different from the usual big plate...so here's my portion of the cold dish

mum and beesharksfin.....there was a controversy on the news lately about protecting the sharks and finding substitutes for this delicacy. Someone in the news forum suggested bird nest...maybe we'll get to see that next time...

abalone......
me and bee

the wild crowd which i din really appreciate....old school pic

This is part of the deco which i thought looks really nice...
